Hi, my name is Moranda Garrett, and my journey to creating Hunnie Friends Outreach is rooted in resilience, compassion, and the unwavering desire to give, even when I had little to offer. My life has been shaped by challenges and moments of profound loss, but through it all, I have remained dedicated to being a source of hope and support for others.
I am a proud mother of nine children, as well as a caregiver to three more who have become part of my heart and home. My story has taken me from the streets of New York, sleeping on bus stops, to living in shelters in Alabama as a single mother of four. At my lowest, I didn’t know where I would end up, but I knew I had to keep going—for my children and myself.
Life’s twists brought unexpected blessings, like meeting my now-husband through a chance encounter with a cab driver in Alabama. Together, we’ve built a life and a family, but not without enduring hardship. Losing my father, my mother, and other loved ones left me grappling with deep pain, often feeling like an “adult orphan.” Yet, even in my darkest days, I found strength to move forward, fueled by my children’s need for me and my determination to rise.
The truest thing about me is this: I am proud of myself because I have survived the days I thought I couldn’t. My experiences have taught me the power of kindness, resilience, and the importance of giving back. It’s this spirit that drives Hunnie Friends Outreach—to provide support and hope to those in need, just as I once needed.
Through this nonprofit, I hope to inspire others to find their strength, embrace their journeys, and build a brighter future, no matter their circumstances.
